Plan Your 2012: Food & Health Blogging Conferences

Happy New Year!

With the holidays and crazyness of December behind us, it’s time to crack open the calendar and start planning 2012′s travel adventures!

Many of my getaways in the past couple of years have been for food blogging conferences. They’ve been some of the most enjoyable, enriching, and rewarding aspects of blogging for me. Most importantly — and this is the real reason — I’ve met so many wonderful people who I am now incredibly fortunate to call friends.  In short, I’ve become a blog conference junkie.

There are so many conferences coming up that I actually started losing track.  To get a handle on all the different events, in November I put together a Google Spreadsheet of all the relevant conferences I could find.

I got some good feedback when I shared it on Twitter, so I thought I’d take it one step further: I’ve just created a Google Calendar with all the events dialed in.  If you use Google Calendar (or another program that can interface with it, such as iCal), then you can simply add this to your own calendar, and it’ll automatically add all the events. No muss, no fuss!

Click this link to add it to your own Google Calendar.

If that doesn’t work, try clicking the little ”+Google Calendar” button in the bottom right of the embedded calendar below. And if that doesn’t work, open up your Google Calendar in a web browser, click on the little down-triangle next to “Other Calendars” (in the left sidebar), choose “Add by URL,” and paste in this iCal link.

That oughtta do it!

Anything I missed? Please let me know.

Also, here’s a big hat tip to Dianne Jacob: Her terrific conference round-up helped me fill in a few gaps in my list.

OMG! What a geek! (the good kind). Tuscany? Gotta look into that one. : )

Hehe. Thanks, Adair. And just think, re: Tuscany. It’s a business expense!

Don’t forget Homefries U. I don’t know the date but you could ask Joy The Baker. GREG

Ooh – good idea. I’ll shoot Joy an email right now. Thanks!

This is awesome, I always struggle trying to find events and would love to meet more people who share the passion for good and exciting food. Umm Tuscany would be a dream come true!!
    Thanks for this..

Hi Gerry! Nice to e-meet you. It’s funny, when I started blogging it never occurred to me that it is such a solitary gig… it seems really social, but Twitter, Facebook, comments, etc. are just no match for real face-to-face interaction.

I did a little digging (okay, I just checked out your Twitter profile) and found that you’re in Long Beach…If you haven’t done so already, check out the Food Bloggers Los Angeles Group! https://www.facebook.com/FoodBloggersLosAngeles

Also, you should definitely consider Camp Blogaway! For those of us in the LA area, it’s one of the best conference deals around. $325 gets you the conference, food, and lodging.

Also, it’d be nice to have another guy in the group. ;)

Hey Andrew, I have been trying to meet with the FBLA group for a few months now but other family commitments over ruled me :( I did just sign up to help Patti at Project Angel Food though so heres hoping she still has a spot left! I have a friend who has a style/craft blog and she recently attended Camp Blogaway I think in Palm Springs? It sounds like it would be a great time. Finally, yes I would agree that us men seem to be the minority in the food blogging community but we can change that!!
        Take care…

I stand corrected, my friend attended Camp Mighty..I checked out Camp Blogaway and I would love to be part of that! Roll on January 10th for registration..

Great list, Andrew! Also, don’t forget the Beer Bloggers Conference: http://beerbloggersconference.org/. I’m debating whether to check that one out this year. So many good ones to choose from! I always love IFBC.

    • Andrew January 9, 2012 at 6:18 pm #

Oooh – terrific! Just added both of them (US and UK). Thanks, Amber!

Wondering if Blogher Food or IFBC…I live in Seattle and can only attend one. I’ve never attended one before. I’m not sure which is bigger or how they are different. Are you heading to Seattle or Portland Andrew?

    • Andrew February 9, 2012 at 11:28 am #

Hi Annette! I’ll actually be speaking at BlogHer Food — and I’ll likely attend IFBC as well (any excuse to visit Portland is a good one!). BlogHer will probably be a bit larger, but IFBC seems to be a bit different from year to year, so who knows…

Looking forward to finally meeting you in person, whichever one(s) you decide to attent!
